Facial Detox
As a part of my “Self-Care” intention for the year, I want to make sure that I am taking care of my body in all ways possible – skin care included. I remember browsing through Pinterest a while back when I was trying to be all hippy dippy and Betty Home Maker, looking for some type of natural face wash to clean out my pores and just make my skin feel refreshed. I found this post from Hollistic Health Herbalist about an oil cleanse for your face, and it worked wonders. I usually do it when I have time – which lets face it, I don’t have much, but I’m going to change that and make it a priority to do it once a week (fingers crossed).
Getting Started
The ingredients are simple and you probably have half of it at home already. First you need a carrier oil like Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil, etc. Second ingredient is Castor Oil. I would definitely read the article Hollistic Health Herbalist wrote because I’m not a pro and just following her guidelines. I have normal skin so I use a 20/80 percent ratio of Castor Oil to the EVOO. You adjust the ratio for the type of skin you have. Here’s what the article suggests:
• Oily Skin– 30% castor oil to 70% carrier oil
• Normal Skin– 20% castor oil to 80% carrier oil
• Dry Skin– 10% castor oil to 90% carrier oil
• Very Dry Skin– 0% castor oil to 100% carrier oil

What’s Next?
After you have all your ingredients mixed together, put a few drops on your hand and rub all over your face. You really want to work that baby into your problem areas (nose pores for me), and massage your face while you’re at it. I even put it on my face with full makeup on and it still works great.

Once that’s all rubbed in, get a face towel and soak it in some hot water. Squeeze the excess water out, find a place to lay down, relax, and lay the towel over your face. The hot water helps open up your pores and gives you that deep clean feeling. When the towel cools, wipe the oil off of your face, then rinse the towel and do another round of the hot water soak.

All Done!
When you’re all done, spritz your face with Rose Oil or Toner and that’s it. Your skin is left feeling super clean and refreshed. No moisturizer needed, and you know exactly what you were using on your skin.

I like to do this at night before I go to bed, so I’m feeling nice and clean before I hit the sheets. When I do this, I just splash my face with cold water the next morning and depending on how my skin feels, I may put on some moisturizer. I’d love to hear if you try this and if you have any of your own facial detox regimens. Comment below or if you post it to Instagram, be sure to use the hashtag #SSAMBeauty.
It’s a good and easy skin care. But a question I get random breakouts you think it would b ok?
I can’t really say since I only know how it works on my skin. I think if you get the measurements right, it would work just fine. I also wouldn’t do it more than twice a week.
I will try and let you know
