Charleston Local Restaurants

New Charleston restaurants – The Habit Restaurant and Bar

With new Charleston restaurants popping up all of the time, it’s no wonder Charleston is named 7th best in the country for “Best Cities for Food in the US” by Food & Wine. We definitely have our staples, but it’s always fun to see new establishments like The Habit Restaurant and Bar, where there’s dining and entertainment (hint hint – speakeasy).

Outside the Habit - new Charleston restaurant

This multi-tiered restaurant just opened at the beginning of August, and is located in the French Quarter of downtown Charleston. Each level has a name and theme, and the decor is absolutely amazing! Michelle Van Jura, the owner/partner, said she has no background in design, but knew how she wanted it to look. I’d say she nailed it with the 1920’s art deco glam and decor. This is a great addition to all the other Charleston restaurants.

Attire
There’s a different theme each night (Motown, 90’s, Disco, etc), but you don’t have to dress the theme to go. It’s casual during the day, however, if you do decide to go after 8pm, you’ll need to follow the dress code. The only thing I found online was Men will need to wear collard shirts, no hats, sneakers, or flip flops.

New restaurants - the Habit

Tiers at The Habit

I was invited as a guest for a special happy hour to celebrate National Rum Day, so we got to tour the whole restaurant, and sample some bites.

The Habit Dining

The Habit Dining is on the first floor, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s casual dining during the day, and has something for everyone. As one of the new Charleston restaurants, The Habit knew what they were doing. It’s one of very few establishments that serves food late-night. The kitchen closes at 1:30am so make sure to get your late night partying done in time to grab a bite.

Peacock Lounge

This is where the fun begins! The dark blues, gold, and peacock colors makes a perfect atmosphere to enjoy a date night, girl’s night, or just a fancy night out. The cocktails and bites we had were so good, and definitely so pretty. Chef Matt Greene totally changed my mind about lamb. Yes. Lamb! As adventurous as I can get with food, I somehow veer away from lamb. Not this time!

V’s at The Habit

This is the speakeasy I was hinting at earlier. It’s also on the second floor, and is absolutely gorgeous with the velvet chairs, mood lighting, and just everything! You’ll have to visit the website to check for upcoming shows and to make your reservations.

The Habit Roof

It was raining when we went, so we got a quick look. It’s definitely something I’m going to put on my list to go back to and check out. Perhaps it will make it on my must visit rooftop bars in Charleston… There’s a downtown water view, and you can even reserve VIP seating with your own private tv.

Make sure you don’t sleep on this one. As a local CHS blogger, I get to visit a lot of new Charleston restaurants, and there are some that really get me excited and want to go back to – this is definitely one of them. Make sure to follow along on my Instagram and check out the Charleston Local tab on my blog for all things Charleston.
