San Diego – Things to do in July

Can you believe it’s already July?!?!?! Well believe it because it is! How’s that for straight to the point, lol. I’ll keep this short and simple but if you live in San Diego, close by, or will be in town this summer, I have a fun little giveaway tucked away in one of these events, so don’t go scrolling too fast!

San Diego County Fair // May 31 to July 4

This year’s theme is “Oz-some” inspired by none other than…. “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” There’ll be tons of carnival rides, carnival food, games, shows, concerts, and so much more! Make sure you check out the link for more info on pricing and hours of operation.

Hornblower Summer Whale Watching Tours / / June 28 – September 2

Kick off the Summer Whale Watching season with the Hornblower because it’s Blue Whale time! Tours are only running Friday-Monday, 9am-1pm. If you’re lucky and there’s some great finds, you may stay out longer. There’s also a lot of different summer events going on so slide into their DMs website and check it out.

Del Beach Bash // July 2 // 7pm to 10pm

Celebrate Independence Week in Coronado! Come to The Del early on July 2 for a beach party with live music by The Mighty Untouchables, fire pits with s’mores and an exciting fireworks display. Then on the 4th of July Coronado Island celebrates with an annual parade, family-friendly activities and a spectacular fireworks show for all to see. Fireworks will begin at approximately 8:45pm. The Del Beach Bash is complimentary for all overnight hotel guests. Day visitors can purchase tickets for $30. For phone reservations call 619-522-8490.

Superheroes’ Night Out // July 6 // 5:30-8:30pm

Calling all superheroes! Our popular Superheroes’ Night Out, presented by the San Diego Honda Dealers, is back! Dress up in masks and capes and flaunt your super powers at our after-hours party with dinner, drinks, super food snacks by Kashi, entertainment, a costume contest, access to the Museum’s art installations, superhero-themed activities and fun the entire family will enjoy! Plus, learn how to make a comic book in a drawing workshop by Little Fish Comic Book Studios!

Pawmicon Rescue Animal Convention // July 7 // 11am-3pm

Celebrate rescued animals during the month of Comic-Con! Enter a costume contest for dogs and dog-and-owner pairs, meet adoptable pups dressed in costume, and enjoy music, games, a prize drawing supporting the Animal Center, and more. Bring your pup to this dog- friendly celebration of heroes big and small!

IB Sun & Sea Festival // July 12-13 // 8am-Dusk Friday, 7am-5pm Saturday

Marvel at amazing sand sculptures created by world-class sandcastle artists. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea.” Activities include the IB Pier Swim & Paddle, the 3K Beach Walk/Run, a pancake breakfast, a community parade, live music, an international food fair, and much more! This is a free event.

66th annual OMBAC World Championship Over-The-Line-Tournament® // July 13-14 and July 20-21

Leave the kids at home for this one. Come out to watch as teams from all over the country compete for the coveted OTL award. If anything, it’s fun to just hear the team names announced. I’ll leave it at that…

Opening Day at Del Mar // July 17 // 2pm

Dust off your wildest hat, don your best suit, and join more than 40,000 race fans for one of the most fabulous, fashionable, and fun festivities in the West! This day is about big bets, fast horses, and celebrating the season in style.

Comic-Con // July 18-21

Do I need to even explain this one? This is one of the biggest conventions in San Diego. If you don’t have tickets to attend the events inside, trek out to all the free activities hosted outside and around Downtown San Diego. If you’re lucky, you may even bump into one of your favorite celebrities.

Play for Say // July 25 // 5-7:30pm

Get in the game at this charity lawn games tournament! Compete with 70 teams in rounds of Bocce Ball, Cornhole, and Ladder Golf to advance to the Tumble Tower playoff. You can also enjoy food samples and beverages from local restaurants. Proceeds will benefit SAY (Social Advocates for Youth) programs in San Diego.

Super Girl Surf Pro // July 26-28

The world’s top professional female surfers are back in Oceanside for the 12th annual Super Girl Surf Pro, a 3 day event from July 26 – 28th, 2019.  The weekend will be jam-packed with world-class surfing competition that will have you on your toes, and a festival village loaded with female-inspired vendors, activities and amazing entertainment. The event is free to attend!
